ECSTASIES So far, thirty-seven ecstasies have been documented, eight of which has occurred outside Damascus. During the ecstasies, Myrna usually sees the Holy Virgin or Christ. Most ecstasies are preceded by an exudation of oil from Myrna's hands, face or neck. When she is about to see Christ, oil also flows from her eyes. This stage is followed by the ecstasy itself, a mental state of disconnection with the external world. During this phase Myrna doesn't see, hear or feel anything and her body is completely stiff. Myrna usually sees Christ in the form of a Person made of light without distinguishing His face, which is not the case with the Holy Virgin, who Myrna sees as a real living person. After having seen Christ or the Virgin Mary, usually receiving a message, Myrna returns to her normal state. It takes a while for her to recover her eyesight as the interior light that she has experienced prevents her from seeing anything for a while. The ecstasies usually last between 5 and 75 minutes, with the exception of November 26 - 29, 1984, when Myrna remained in ecstasy for 72 consecutive hours. STIGMATA To this date Myrna has received the stigmata six times; in 1983, 84, 87, 90, 2001 and 2004. Many claim to have been cured from illnesses after having been anointed with the oil ANALYSES OF THE OIL Six independent scientific analyses have been conducted on the oil from the replica of the icon and the oil which exudes from Myrna's body. Father Joseph Malouli found out about Soufanieh the day the Security police visited Myrna's house. He had been invited to go there to observe the oil oozing exuding from the icon. He arrived for the first time on February 21, 1983. The same day at 10:30 pm, Myrna had an apparition. The Virgin talked to her and mentioned the name "Joseph". Afterwards Myrna passed on the message and asked Father Malouli if he had any idea who this "Joseph" was. "My name is Joseph", Father Malouli answered and realized that the message was addressed to him. This constituted a major turning point in the whole phenomenon. Father Malouli was a prominent personality in Damascus, widely known for his integrity and honesty. Because of his personality and educational background, Father Malouli had always been allergic to supernatural phenomena. And was known to have fought fiercely against numerous manifestations of "supernatural events" that had occurred in Damascus since 1940. The next seventeen years Father Malouli observed and noted meticulously everything that happened in the house, which he practically never left. To quote his own words "I have let myself be caught totally (body and soul) by the phenomenon of Soufanieh."
