Mac has unveiled their latest project: [url=http://www.apple.com/macbookair/specs.html]the new MacBook Air[/url]...lighter than ever. Long story short, it's a netbook with OSX with less disk space, a slower CPU, and non-upgradeable memory (since the [by default] two gigs of memory is soldered on)...but they're refusing to call it a netbook, I guess for the same reasons the iPad isn't a tablet, the iPod isn't an mp3 player, the MacBook isn't a laptop/notebook, and a Mac isn't a PC. Really, seeing as the smaller Air (as they released two different sizes) is the same size as the iPad, I really fail to see what market there is for an iPad. It's like all the cons of an Air with none of the pros...aside from being a touchscreen, in which case you may as well purchase an iPhone, or an iPod Touch if you hate AT&T (and soon Verizon). Personally, I say the reason the [url=http://www.itechnews.net/wp-content/uploads/2007/02/Fujitsu-LifeBook-P1610-Tablet-PC.jpg]now ancient tablet PCs[/url] failed was because the GUI wasn't made for both normal laptop use [i]and[/i] touchscreen use. I'm thinking what we need is a hybrid to satisfy those people who must have shiny things. Make a tablet PC that, when the screen is flipped into a tablet, the GUI changed from a normal netbook GUI to a touchscreen GUI. For some reason unbeknownst to me, it seems like there's a surprisingly large market for that.
