A Brief Salvation Testimony From Steve R Brunton To whom it may concern: I am presenting this brief salvation testimony of mine, by the leading of the Holy Spirit, and in accordance with the scripture in Revelation 12:11 which says, "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death." In 1983, I was about to turn 25 years old, living in Detroit, MI, working as a contract computer programmer at General Motors Assembly Division (GMAD) Headquarters for Compuware Corporation. I spent my days in the beautiful GMAD Headquarters building at 10-Mile Street, converting assembly language code for use in a newer operating environment. I spent my nights in the cheap run-down corner bar near the flat I was renting close to 8-Mile Street, where I would drink and smoke (cigarettes and weed), and look for a place or person with which I could be accepted, fit in, and have a sense of belonging. In mid-March of that year 1983, my mother and my stepfather came to visit me in Detroit from Louisville, KY where they lived, for the occasion of my 25th birthday on March 17th. Actually, I think they may have arrived on the 18th, a day later. At any rate, I took them to see a few of the sites in the area, and they spent the night with me in my flat. My mother went to bed early, while my stepfather and I decided to watch a movie on TV. As it was close to Easter (just 2 weeks away), they had a movie on about the life of Jesus. I don't remember much of what I saw in the movie, but there was a scene at the end of the movie that I recall as vividly today, as if it just happened in this instant. The scene depicted the crucifixion of Christ, showing Jesus nailed to the cross, bowing His head, and giving up the ghost, as the scripture says. But then, I was surprised to see, that as they showed Jesus, dead on the cross, they superimposed on the screen the words, "The End." I didn't know much about Jesus or the scriptures then, but from my limited reading of the New Testament, I knew that not one of the four NT Gospel accounts of the life of Jesus, ended with the cross, but that they all went on to tell of His burial, and resurrection from the dead 3 days later. I was so shocked by it that I exclaimed to my stepfather, "THAT'S not the end." I now realize that not everyone who talks about the Gospel story, is a true believer in the Gospel message. About 2 weeks later, on April 1, 1983, a Good Friday, I went out to eat at a nearby diner. I ordered a hamburger and French fries, and I was feeling somewhat odd, as I guess God's Spirit was dealing with me, drawing me to Himself, as I now realize, but at the time, I just felt weird. When my food arrived, I couldn't bring myself to eat, which was unusual because I have always loved hamburgers and fries. I couldn't take a bite of my hamburger, so I just sat there, eventually bringing myself to nibble on a couple of fries, plain, without ketchup, which I love and always ate on my fries. I believe now, that I was thinking about the life of Jesus in the Last Supper, on Good Friday when He and His disciples ate the bitter herbs. When I got back to my flat, I was kind of beside myself, and as I lay in my bed, in the darkness, looking upwards, I somehow knew God was there and was speaking to me, to surrender to Him, so I finally just said, one word, "okay", and when I did, I was filled with light that came from above, entering through the ceiling and into me. When that happened, I cried, and my heart was changed, and has been in that process now, for the past 39 years. Remember, Jesus died on the cross for our sins, but never forget, JESUS IS ALIVE NOW and FOREVER. Amen. SRB

More info Studied Major: Computer Science at Western Kentucky University Also studied Minor: Mathematics · December 1976 - December 1980 I enjoyed my time at WKU and I learned a lot there. Had great Professors. Did well in computer studies. Had problems in math classes (not interested enough to do necessary study). Summer of 1978 went to Marine Corp. Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Quantico, VA. Was a big challenge for me, but I passed successfully. Glad I went through it. Soon after, began learning to play the guitar. At this point, I was influenced toward unhealthy lifestyle (weed use), by new acquaintance who became my roommate. Eventually, this addiction led to my flunking out of college. Thankfully, I had learned enough of the computer field to manage to get a job as a computer programmer (gaining entrance as a temp. data entry person, as an answered prayer of a Christian that I knew at the time, though I didn't know the Lord at that time). Well, that pretty much sums up my WKU experience. Liked math fairly well, but had difficulty applying myself to higher math. Was more interested in calculators, and then computers. Liked to play basketball. Was on Chess team (state champions 1974). Nicknamed Mouse (affectionately), for shy personality. Shared with Public
