Where’s your perspective on heaven or earth? “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth” – Col. 3:2 When we came to the Lord we all received a “new heart, new mind and a clean conscience”, to now learn how to live a righteous and holy life to do everything that pleases Him. However, at times, our minds will wander off; to places they shouldn’t be at first and have a lustful or impure thought that doesn’t glorify the Lord. The mind is very important and we shouldn’t let anything corrupt them but should take great care of them. If our thoughts our corrupted they will retard our spiritual maturity which will corrupt our spiritual walk. They it will blindside and make us forget about the Lord, his grace, mercy, unconditional love, forgiveness, our salvation and our true home, heaven. So the mind is very important when we wake up each time in the morning, since the thoughts of the past or yesterday remain. We now must renew our minds. “And don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds”. Now how do we doing this? Does this come when we watch TV, have an ungodly conversation, read a book or magazine that’s worldly? Will this help us grow spiritually to maturity? No, it will pollute our minds and keep us from being strong in the grace of God “You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus” and “but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ”. So we must take the time everyday to read the Word of God, at least 15 minutes one or two chapters a day and spend time with Him. “He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked”. Because when we read it we will understand how to live for Him, sensetive to the deceitfulness of sin, make wise decisions that are in His will and know where we are going after we die, so it must be read, studied and mediated upon daily. The Lord had instructed how Joshua must live for Him “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall mediate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success”. That should be our attitude towards the Word of God. If we don’t clean up our minds from the impurity we put in them, we will not pray correctly. “But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers” or even “pray without ceasing”. When we keep our attention to learn to be in the Spirit to starve the flesh, we will have a “good conscience” which will show that we are living for the Lord and not for ourselves much longer. “Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith” and “Flee also the youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart”. However, for some this takes effort, time and patience to develop, so it doesn’t occur in one day but daily. Yet whenever the Christian gets defiled with any thought they must take them to the feet of Christ everyday immediately “bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” and “For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness”. So when the mind is full of thoughts that are not from the Lord, the Christian must ask the Lord to wash his or her brains, to develop an eternal perspective to “set your minds on things above” and live to in the light of eternity. Christian, do inventory your spiritual life and know if your thoughts are on this world more than on the Lord and home for eternity, Heaven.
