A renewed instruction

John 13:34 "A new precept am I giving to you, that you be loving one another; according as I love you, that you also be loving one another." In the Peshitta the word translated new is the Aramaic word "chdta." According to the Syriac dictionary the word carries the connotation of either new or renewed. You can view the Peshitta at http://www.peshitta.org/ You can review your Aramaic alphabet at http://www.omniglot.com/writing/syriac.htm You can look up the Syriac dictionary at http://www.tabs-online.com/TABS/PayneSmith/ This is the same as the Hebrew word "chdsh" which also carries the same meaning. John 13:34 should most likely be translated: Instruction renewed I am giving to you ….. To me this makes more sense since this instruction "to love one another" has already been given (Lev 19:18, Zec 8:17). Of course, Yeshua amends the instruction, this makes it revised or renewed, not new.
