Abortion may be illegal

Mississippi is having an initiative on the ballet in November for the "Personhood Amendment." It will define "person" as being from the moment of conception thereby making abortion illegal in Mississippi! For more info, go to http://www.yeson26.net and also see what you can do to get this in your state also.

On that note, I was reading through the xkcd forums yesterday and they were discussing abortion. Question: if abortion was made illegal, would the number of abortions committed go down, or would they just be done as "ally abortions" (which harms both the mother and the child)? I think that without a vigilant effort to make mothers aware of other options, especially in poorer areas, much more risky abortions would occur. But as time went on they would decrease. In the context of life starting at conception, it doesn't matter whether ally abortions would increase -- the overall number of innocent lives lost would decrease. However until I read that message board I never actually considered this outcome if abortion was made illegal. And I think most of us in the pro-life camp haven't. If abortion is made illegal, we (pro-lifers and the Church) need to be aware of and be active to help those who are going to try to still get abortions. In economic terms, if the demand for abortion still exists but the government bans it, a black market will form. We have to decrease the demand for abortions.

I'm definitely with you on that. And the churches around here are making an effort to help people. As for the unsafe ally abortions, I have heard of several cases where women have died because of the abortion clinics being irresponsible.

I'm not saying that I totaly agree with abortion, but I also know there are more circumstances then just a woman not wanting her child. You have to remember, what if she was raped? Would you want to carry your rapist child for 9 months? My mom knows a family who is very much against abortion, and when their daughter ended up pregnant. They eventually got out of their daughter who the father was; it was her brother. What would you do? They decided for abortion. I don't think you should get an abortion if you chose to have sex, if you are mature enough to have sex you are mature enough to deal with the effcts. Whether you choose to raise the child or to give it up for adoption, you need to be able to handle it, if you don't think you are able to handle it, don't have sex.
I don't think you should get an abortion if you chose to have sex, if you are mature enough to have sex you are mature enough to deal with the effcts.
Frankly, that's just patently naive. A 13 year old can have sex and can get pregnant (dependent on how early menstruum has started), does that mean they are mature enough to raise a child? I think not. That sort of rhetoric sounds might make for good sound bytes, but it's a lousy way to live your life. Dante

If you think you are mature enough for sex, you should ask yourself whether or not you are mature enough to raise a child. Better?

Dante
I don't think I was clear, I didn't mean mature in the physical aspect, I ment psycholocily. Having sex is not just a physical thing, there are many emotions that come along with it. Also they do not have to raise the child, there is always adoption, or in some cases the parents of the teen raise the child, until the teen parent is ready to take on such a great task.
