Spiritual blindness “Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings” – Gen 3:7 When Adam and Eve were created they were innocent and moral perfected in all their ways they didn’t have any knowledge of sin whatsoever, because in Eden everything that God had created was good “Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good” and that’s why they roamed in the garden naked without shame. “And they were both naked, the man and his wife and were not ashamed”. But one day Adam and Eve got deceived by the serpent and choose to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil that God commanded Adam to not eat from and so they hid themselves. They became spiritually blind and covered themselves with “fig leaves” symbolic of man’s self-righteous attempt to cover up their sin. God knew what they did and wanted Adam accountable for his actions on why he did it that’s why God said “Where are you”. Moses also thought his murderous plot will be covered in the sand but it was known “So Moses feared and said, “Surely this thing is known!” not to mention Achan when he hid the gold and sliver in his tent. Today the same pattern is repeated in the Christian’s life and it hasn’t changed ever since that time. That's we should be clothed with Christ "But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts". When we gave our lives to Jesus Christ, we walked with God for a short period of time then covered ourselves with spiritual fig leaves, didn’t repent or ask forgiveness for days, the result we thought God didn’t see what we’ve done. Then we will soon realize what we have done after His hand of discipline “Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep Your word”. Since He looks at the heart “but the Lord looks at the heart” and “And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account”. So He knows exactly what were going to do, even before we sin everyday. Let’s not get deceived developing a pattern thinking that He doesn’t knows and have seen what we do. We can’t hide from Him because He hears and sees what we do “He who planted the ear, shall He not hear? He who formed the eye, shall He not see?” and knows everything “O LORD, You have searched me and known me”. As we grow in Christ, by reading the Word and prayer, we will become more sensitive to sin and live victorious lives as the Spirit empowers us “Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ” and “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world”. Sin will no longer be a problem because we will change as the Word gets in us and practice it. There’s not one child of God who doesn’t struggled with sin daily, not one “knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world”. All of us are under spiritual construction and need God in every aspect of our lives to change those areas. Some of us now have behavior problems while others have an unforgiving heart, pride, envy, lust or greed, but that doesn’t mean we are going to run away and hide ourselves all our lives from those things. We must tell Jesus to wash our feet “LORD are You washing my feet”? So whenever we stumble, we must ask the Father for the wisdom to overcome it “God understands its way, and He knows its place”. However, at certain times we get tempted to or will sin and as this occurs we must ask the Father to help us with our weaknesses so we don’t cover them with “spiritual fig leaves” acting as nothing has happened. God has already caught us “red handed”! Christian, what are you covering this evening with “fig leaves”, (you know what it is) that nobody hasn’t seen in your life that the Father has already seen what you’ve already done? You might be spiritually blind now, you need to stop covering yourself with fig leaves and need to remove them now with repentance, confession and forgiveness. Take the time this evening to search out your heart in which sins you’ve covered so far and bring them to the Father.
