Emotional Needs.

I was discussing this topic with a friend of mine earlier. My opinion is the following: People let you down. People that you love, people that love you, and people that promised that they'd never let you down. It happens every day. Therefore, we should have no emotional needs except for the Love of God because He will NEVER let you down. I'll admit, I like to have love from others, but I've taught myself not to need it because, as I said above, they let you down, and the feeling that what you need has been taken away hurts. This friend disagreed strongly with me. I wanted to know how you ladies felt about this. And keep in mind, my opinion will probably be a little different from yours. This was basically based on relationship needs, and how I feel that I never ever need a man. I'm slightly feminist, so bear that in mind when you think about what I just said.

Let's not get started on feminist debates, k? :P I think it's more that our expectations of people let us down when they don't fulfill them... I raise these question, if we should have no emotional needs but those of the Father, why did He give us them? Is it not partly emotional needs of friends, family, pastors who help us get back to a coherent state when we are angry/mad/far away from God so that we can come back into His grace and love again? So is it then our emotions/emotional needs that draw us away from God and let us down, rather than other peoples? Do we not rely on emotional needs to help one another in the body of Christ in a physical way (can't think of the right word) while God is working in every way, but when we cannot feel/hear/see Him? As long as you accept love from others when it comes along, otherwise you may as well be living like a hermit. :P In a general sense, why did God make us how we are (in relation to husband/wife) if we do not need emotional needs? Why did He make Eve for Adam? Why do we have friends? A yearning for companionship, acceptance etc? I'm not saying that you need a man, just articulating my thoughts; of which I'll have more later :)

Good post, Kez. Lots of good points. I'll be thinking over them quite a bit. :)

Thinking is good! Your post got me thinking too and I had a wee chat with Logan about it, mind if I share some of his thoughts? I didn't tell him names or anything, just kept it very vague. :)

Oh, I don't care. Share freely. I think it makes for a good discussion topic.
