Food issue...

Hey girls. I'm struggling with food right now. It's not really a weight issue at all, but a discipline and health issue. I'm at college, so yeah, our food is pretty horrible. Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful for it, and some of it actually tastes pretty good; however, it is prepared in bulk, is really greasy, and just doesn't seem healthy. Besides the main meals in the cafeterria, I've been feeling hungry all the time - sometimes for good food, but most of the time for junk. I eat too much at meals, sometimes because I still feel hungry, but sometimes just because I want the taste of something in my mouth (usually something sweet  ). I think it might have something to do with the poor quality protein here (I'm afraid to eat a lot of our "mystery meats"), but I don't really know. *shrug* I'm not entirely sure what I'm asking - I guess just if anyone has dealt with this too or has any suggestions.

Oh my word, I know exactly what you are talking about! I am going through the same stuff except it did become a weight pronlem for me(loosind and gaining). Al I can say is eat when you are hungry and stop when your full. Sweets aren't bad on ocassion. Don't get too stressed out on only eating healthy either because as i found out the hard way it can lead to over eating with lots of junky food. Hang in there.

I have to keep my weight down for my one of my jobs, (I'm still trying to get down in weight and stay in shape!!) and some things I found that really help are; #1-drink lots of water. Cut out all (or as much) soda and coffee as you can. Just do water, and some unsweetened tea (if you have to sweaten it, use a little honey) and some good heathy juices. #2-Try Diet/protein bars. Slim Fast has these really good 'optima' bars that have more protien than the normal ones. I normally carry one in my purse, that way if I'm out with friends and I'm hungry and they decide to stop for something, I can eat that rather than junk food. #3- eat several small meals vs. three large one. I know its not always possible with a busy schedule, but try to eat five small meals a day rather than three big meals, that way your body is constantly burning and you wont start craving sweets. I've been doing the top 2 for about two months now. And I try to do the third on as much as possible, but it is kinda hard if you have a busy schedule. But you can always have a little less at your meals and have "in between" meals of a diet/protein bar. But I've found that unless I'm upset or stressed out alot I dont normally crave sweets anymore (which is HUGE cause I used to have a major sweet tooth!) and I also dont really like soda anymore. Like today my stomach was a little upset at work so I got a sprite, and it seemed overly sweet to me, whereas it used to seem refreshing. I dunno. Its amazing how much...cleaner I guess you can say...you can feel if you just cut out some of the stuff you eat and supliment it with good stuff. I dont know if you're allowed to have food in your dorms or not, but you might also try some apples, they're pretty sweet and might help with sugar cravings. Hope I helped a little. --Cassiopeia

Thanks girls - I was pretty sure I couldn't be the only one out there with this issue, but it's nice to hear that I'm not alone. ;) I only drink water (juice occassionaly if I want flavor) so no worries there. That's one of the best things I've ever done diet wise, in my opinion. My family stopped drinking soda a long time ago, so it was easy.

I'm struggling with college food, too. Ours is SO greasy!! It makes not eating it a little easier, though, because I don't like eating all that grease, it's nasty. But I have a lot of access to sweets and it's hard not to eat them. But I have actually been drinking water (mostly cause it's cheap!!) and I actually like it. I feel better when I've been drinking water.
