Going to College Fears

So, I'm finally eighteen, and have had an account on here since I was fourteen. I'm going off to college in St. Louis, which I'm very excited about. However, I will hardly ever see my friends anymore because I'm going to be six hours away. I won't ever see them, and I won't ever see my family, other than my Great grandma, Great aunt and uncle, and my Grandma and Grandpa. I will only be able to come home maybe once every two or three months. Then, on top of that, I just got dumped, and it's probably because I'm going to be so far away and will hardly be back. I'm excited to go, but I'm nervous about losing everything and everyone dear to me out here when I'm in St. Louis. Is this normal for college goers that are going away for college?

It's normal. Remember though that change does happen whether you stay where you are or go to college. Keep in mind that you should stop looking behind you and look forward at everything you'll get to do. You get to choose what you do and when you do it. You get to learn only what you want to, you aren't forced to do anything. You can make new friends, join new awesome clubs, go be free from home. The attitude that you're "losing" things will make college a very hard and depressing existance- yes, existance. If you don't enjoy life, then what life do you have? And also, if you keep looking behind where you're going, then you're going to eventually hit a wall and go no further in life. Plus, facebook is a glorious thing to keep in contact with people until you're ready to let go.

I agree with Chelsea... I wanted to add one more thing but it sounded like I'm insensitive... If you ever need to talk to someone who knows what your going through/going to be going through then Chelsea and I are both at college and our inboxs are always open :) Oh hey, I was thinking about it yesterday... what are the differences between your colleges and universities?

Nothing, actually. My "college" has the words (insert state here) University in it, so technically it's a university, but we call it college. Is there a difference where you are? Now, there are places like community colleges where you don't really stay to get a full on degree, mostly just taking various classes (most people take their basics there, then go to get their degrees at something with the title University.) Past that, i've never known or noticed a difference.
