Homeschoolers

Okay, I've heard a lot of things about homeschoolers that I really want to help clear up. I'm a homeschooler and I've heard a lot of things that are not true. And of the things I've heard (and more in likely a lot of the homeschoolers on here) is that homeschoolers don't have any friends or we do, but we just don't see them. Okay, this is not true. We do see and meet new and old friends, just not the way that kids in public schools do. If anyone has any questions about homeschooling, please, ask. I'll do my best to answer them.

I used to be homeschooled... in reality, it can be really tough to have friends and be homeschooled if you dont go to a church... that's the only reason i had friends as a kid when I was homeschooled

I'm homeschooled and the problem is that people make generalizations about those who are. There is variety within a group of home-schooled kids just like with those who are public/private schooled whatever. Some really are nerdy, some are proud, some are super smart and some aren't, and some are really nice, cool, athletic, etc. My social network starts with my church. It can really branch out from there, esp. when you get involved in other things. There are lots of opportunites and to a large degree it has to do with the parents and how involved they want their kid(s) to be. They are not all the same and one would be better off if they didn't start off in their minds with stereotypes. There was no other option in my life but homeschooling so I live w/ it and enjoy it but I do miss out some things-largely my witness- but I'm a year way from college and I'll have my chances in life.

I'm homeschooled. I work, and go to church so friends are not really an issue to me. I just live my life. I feel like I am much closer to my family than those kids who go to public school. I used to go to public school. It wasn't the greatest.

Hello ladies and gents, I also used to be homeschooled, until seventh grade when my mom put me into a public school ( after much prayer). And I agree with DHfan. I hope i dont affend anyone but i believe public school has more benifits: First off and most importantly, God put us into this world to be a LIGHT, not a monk ( God bless their souls). We should be more worried about what effects we can have on our friends and our culture; than constantly fearing that we are being influenced. ( not to say being cautious is bad). 2. More opportunities are available for college-prep: clubs, more choices of sports, etc.... and I was able to travel to Japan, for a 2 week exchange. 3. Also I was greatly introduced to many differnent cultures and people types. 4. Competition (academic and athletic) is good for developing character. Not all public schools have 40 kids to a class with loser teachers. Ofcourse homeschoolers get 1 on 1 attention, which is great! It helps to build foundations in reading etc... Yes sex, drugs, and gangs are around, but is it not our duty and charge from Christ to make a difference? Dont get me wrong homschoolers are great, and im not saying its wrong. Some of my friends' best option is homeschooling. God Bless, Sam

I'm home schooled. I would rather go away to school though. I have friends but I really dont see them that much. I dont have a problem with hs but that is just my point of view

I was in public hs for a year and a half and homeschooled for a semi. I think that both were great for me. I made an impact on people in hs that i would have never come into contact otherwise... and i grew in my relationship with Christ... however... being homeschool.. was a hard thing for me as well.. because i didn't have a good homelife... i think it can be what you make it... both gave me and showed me alot in my life... I was able to be the light in my public school and at home.

How is one supposed to witness to kids that are already saved?

Their parents may put them there, they may desire the enviroment or prestige of a private school, or they may be unsure. And to kids who are already truly saved, you don't witness, you encourage discipleship.
