Keep it at a friendship. I've had to make that decisioin before, and trust me, it's better than dating that person.

If you're worried about it then you don't like him enough to date him. If you liked him enough, then there wouldn't be a question about it. You obviously expect the relationship to end and the friendship to be ruined, so it's probably best to just keep it friendly. if dating someone ruins the friendship then I was probably doing something that would ruin the friendship anyway. NOT dating someone has ruined some of my friendships too because he started dating someone else when I said no and I got really jealous about it. But this leads me to ask: if you don't date your friends because you're worried about ruining the friendship, who do you date? Guys you don't even know? I'd rather date my best friend. After all, that's the kind of guy I want to marry.
