The Bible (NASB) only uses the word "fair" about a dozen times, and never in relation to God. On the contrary, the Bible is riddled with stories of God treating people unfairly. For example, Job, who is upheld as righteous and blameless, is the subject of much persecution due to God's direct action (or inaction, as it were). Likewise, God commands Samuel to commit genocide against the Amalekites, ordering him not to spare women, children and infants. The message of the Bible doesn't seem to be one of a "fair" God, rather a God intent on furthering his plan for humanity. Dante

Dante, your statement made me think of Leto's Golden Path. And it is my personal belief that G-d may not be fair, but He is just. Rip that to shreds, it's just an opinion. Which therefore means I might be wrong. But I'm ok with that. :P

Heh, Bittersweet, that's just what I came into this thread to post. Fair =/= Just. God is just, but not always what we would consider fair. I mean look at the parable of the talents. Is it fair that one man got 10 talents, while the other got 5 and one only 2? Surely in fairness they would have each received 5 talents so they had equal opportunity for gain. However God is not unjust for dividing them as he sees fit.

I'm not sure how closely Leto's Golden Path could be used as an analogy here (since I think the well-being of humanity is secondary to god's plan as outlined in the Bible), but it certainly is a comparable metaphor. I wouldn't agree with the idea of the god of the bible being particularly just, but I understand that the biblical perspective of just is different from mine, so I'm not working from a comparable basis. Biblically, god is just, so there's nothing really for me to "rip to shreds." (disappointing for you, I'm sure ;) Dante
