Numbers 3:1-2 (ESV) The generations of who? Of Aaron and Moses. One of the few places in Scripture where Aaron is listed ahead of Moses. Whose sons are listed? Aaron's sons. They are Nadav, Abihu, Eleazer and Ithamar. Nadav and Abihu died before the Lord when they offered esh zarav (alien fire). Leviticus chapter 10 (ESV) Eleazer would then succeed his father as high priest. Numbers 20:22-29 (ESV) Ithamar served as a priest also. Numbers 3:4 (ESV) Again, these are Aaron's sons. Now, pay attention.... Who does Scripture say these are the generations of? Go back to verse 1. These are the generations of Aaron and Moses. (Emphasis added) But only Aaron's sons are listed. Not Moses'. (Trivia question. What are the names of Moses' sons?) Why are Moses's sons not listed? Why mention Moses at all? Be well, Leo

Moses' sons: Gershom and Eliezer. Exodus 18:2-4 I don't know why Moses's sons are not listed. But, it appears that the answer to this question was something more ardently to be wished for than seriously to be expected. Why mention Moses at all? Again, idk. But, one answer I've heard that I like is that Moses is accounted as a father to Aaron's sons because Moses taught them Torah. How do we know that Moses taught Aaron's sons? And it is written: "Speak to Aaron and his sons and to all the Israelites and say to them: 'This is what the LORD has commanded....'" Lev 17:2. (emphasis added) And again, "The LORD said to Moses, "Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and say to them..." Lev 21:1 (emphasis added) And also: "Speak to Aaron and his sons and to all the Israelites and say to them..." Lev 22:18 (emphasis added) One who teaches Torah is as one who raises sons, as it is said, "and thou shalt teach them [i.e. God's words] diligently unto thy children." (Deut 6:7)

Trust my Jewish Study Bible to be the only one that takes note of this peculiarity. :P Really, I can't think of another reason why this may have occurred, so for now I'll have to nod my head in agreement.
