I gave you everything I had, I loved you with more than you could know. I watched you eat and waited for mine though I was hungry. I sat by your side to keep you company though you let me be lonely I watched your door to keep the bad things out though you'd leave me in the dark. I'd nudge your arm or hand wanting to express how much I cared even though you never showed me any love at all. And in spite of all the things I did to help you..to show you I loved you..that I wanted to be your friend You told me to "git" when I didn't want to leave you. You hit me, you kicked me..you yelled at me when I was only trying to love you. You'd lock me up, and I couldn't protect you. Why can't we play together? How come you never give me baths? and I can't brush my hair. Why must it be this way? I love you..why can't you see that? Why can't you understand? Don't you love me too?.. We're going for a ride!? Oh wonderful! we never go for rides!, We get to play and have fun maybe? Could I get a bath too? Have you finally understood everything I've been trying to tell you!? Oh it looks so wonderful! I see so many houses and other Masters..and other dogs! Look Master! They're playing too! This sure is a long ride! Not that I'm complaining Master, it's so much fun! Wait why are we stopping? are we there? is it a park? Ok maybe we are going for a walk?...wait why are you leaving? Master wait! You forgot me! I'm still here! Master I can't keep up with you! You're driving too fast! Can't you hear my bark!? ...Oh Master.. In spite my barks for your return..the run I made to catch up...you never turned back and I couldn't keep up.. I'll wait here, maybe you just forgot You'll be back, you know I love you, you must know... I look into the windows and smell at the cars as they stop by this Stop sign..why are you never there? Still endlessly waiting by the sign....It's so hot..surely you'll return and bring a bowl of water...surely you know Ill soon be hungry.. I've waited here for days..weeks... my belly beginning to swell...I have pups on the way...didnt you know? I told you so many times in so many ways...surely you understood.. It's been so long..have you forgot where you left me maybe? I know you must be looking for me...surely you'll be by here soon... I must leave for a little while...time for my pups to be born..there's an old bus I'll keep them in but I'll return to the sign, wait for me when you get here..oh master please don't leave before I get back. Still no sign of you..I only leave to feed my pups..how i want you to see them so much, they're so beautiful. I love them as much as I love you...I don't understand..why haven't you come back for me.. Weeks have gone by and I still don't see you..I search and search for your scent..and it's nowhere to be found.. Master I'm losing hope...but I still wait here..I'm still waiting here...please come.. It's a cold and rainy day today...I don't want to leave this sign..my pups call for me... I'm so torn.. I've lost one already..taken by the road..Master don't you know we're here??? my babies are dying they need a home. they need masters too, please come find them Masters like you. A car is stopping..is it you?...no..once again it's not...but someone is calling me..who? what do they want? do they know I'm waiting for you? They've found my pups...what do I do?!...I can't leave..but I can't leave my pups! We're put in that car..it's so warm.. Oh but wait..they're so nice to my pups, Master..I wish you could meet them! Someone else is coming..they're holding my pups and walking away..Oh My pups now have Masters too! I hope they are good Masters like mine.. Food and water! oh how wonderful and there are blankets and oh the Master the hugs..they're giving me so many hugs! I've had my very first bath! oh I feel so fresh! Master I'm so happy, oh how I wish you could see me now.. One lady has named me! a name! I finally have my very own name! Merrygold! Its so pretty! And Master there's this one girl who's always talking to me about everything and patting my head, she's so nice. She lets me sleep in her lap and she shares her food! She even lets me drink coffee with her while we watch the sunrise together.. oh I love it so much She sneaks me in her bed to sleep under a warm blanket sometimes and sometimes she even sneaks out to sit on the porch with me! But oh Master don't tell, its a secret! She takes me to the creek and she catches funny things in the water that she lets me see and smell. She dresses me up and we take pictures sometimes but I don't like the camera too much, the light is much too bright We have a funny game we play where she jumps and says Hey! or (imma getchoo!) and I freeze and then she freezes...and then she jumps up and I run until she catches me and scratches my belly! Oh it's my favorite game! She brushes my hair and gives me more baths! and Master she even puts color on my nails like hers! We take naps on the trampoline and we play in the leaves and we sometimes go for a ride in the back of a truck! We play in hay and we go for the longest walks and we wrestle and she scratches my belly! Oh it's so wonderful! She gives me kisses on my nose tells me I'm her best friend and says she loves me..Master she loves me! If not for you Master..I never would have found this girl..she never would have found me. Thank you master for leaving me..and I have stopped looking for you now..because now I understand You left me to find a new Master and I've found her..a best friend..and true love. I've written dedicated it to my dog Merrygold who died last year of old age and to every dog that has ever been left behind or hurt by an unfit, unloving and undeserving Master. To the person that left her by that Stop sign..Thank you from me too..because you gave me the best friend I've ever had in her..I'm only sorry you couldn't see what a beautiful, loving and loyal friend she truly was. Not every Master is a true Master..but every dog is true love...if only given the chance.
