Weird People

I was walking my charge (I babysit this adorable little Southern girl every Wednesday and sometimes Thursday) back home from the park and from getting Slurpees (by the way, does anyone else think that it's gross that they contain the word "pee?"), when we saw this large group of people dresses in pink and white outfits with giant powdered wigs on congregating in front of the local shoe and chocolate place (yes, they sell both). So my charge inquires about these people, and why they look so weird. I mumbled something about how the owner of one of the restaurant owners keeps trying to capitalize on everything John Waters despite his insistence that he hates her and wants nothing to do with her silly festival. Though in truth, I didn't really know if he liked stuff THIS weird. Loved Crybaby, loved Hairspray, but they're both the wrong era for what we saw lol. Then this odd old man speaks from behind us, and we turn to see him and his dog walking towards us. "It's Bastille Day," he says. And suddenly that explains everything. The French are just weird like that. Cool, but weird. I don't know about you, but I like to people watch. Not to criticize, but to sort of look at society and laugh at how silly we can be. So here it is: a thread just for you people watchers. Talk about the odd people you see here!

Short version: I was eating lunch on the corner of a 4 way intersection. Rather busy street. While I was watching, I saw a hippie walking down the street- like a legitimate one. Real 70's clothing and everything, down to the shoes, the headband, leather satchel, fringe, everything. So as I watch this man, he passes a flower shop. What do I see at this flower shop? Two amish girls getting into their CAR and driving away. 1- They looked too young to drive. 2- They were not dressed menonite, but rather full traditional amish. 3- They didn't look like they knew quite what they were doing with this car.

Lol. They either stole it or ran away or were out on their "growing up" quest that some of them apparently do. Today, I was walking past the sausage sample booth at Costco, when I noticed that the guy serving the sausage had a nametag that read "McLovin." And on the drive home, I saw a car that said, "U MAD?" on the trunk.

oh, and my story (which is shortened and edited B) ): on September 1, 2007, in berkeley, CA outside of memorial stadium on the campus of the university of california, berkeley, there was a protest going on. this protest was about not cutting down some trees to make way for a new athletic training facility. so people actually lived in these trees for 19 months. september 1 was opening day for the cal football season against kayla's volunteers of the university of tennessee (my golden bears scraped the vols ;) ). before the game, i went over to the trees and screamed very vulgar things at the "stupid hippies in the trees." the visiting fans from tennessee were dying of laughter at the things i was saying and at these people living in the trees. they screamed things like "dont you care about these trees?" back at me. and i probably said something like "no, but if i did, i probably wouldnt have nailed all those solar panels into them!" i swear, i have no clue why i want to go to this school. im gonna get in trouble sometime
