where is this generation headed?

First off, I just want to take this time to say hello, to all the memebers on this board. Its been quite awhile since I last posted on this thread and it feels great to be back. I realize that this is an old topic, however, I wanted to get my opinon in on this topic. Personally, I find myself in disagrement with the majority of the people on this board. Namely, I find myself in disagrement with the idea that our generation is rapidly declining, at least as far as morals go. Now, bear in mind that I am an 18 year old college hopeful, so, I currently live in what would be called "this generation". However, I don't believe that this generations morals are any worse than they have ever been. I understand that their is a lot of pre- maritial sex going around. However, I do not, for a second, believe that it is universal or that the majority of teens are engaging in it. Now, thats not even to say that I believe that having pre-maritial sex is immoral, I don't think it is neccessarily. Even if you take that position, however, it still isn't dramatically different than what it was in, say, the 60-70's. Also, the drug use was similar if not even more rampant in the 60's than it ever has been today, if history books are to be trusted. As a matter of fact, these problems, if you consider them that, have been a part of humanity since its infancy. If you look at history, then you will see all kinds of moral problems that have plagued man, from the begining. The Romans, for example had many practices that one could consider immoral. Many, that were dramatically worse than anything that we have today, such as the colleseums, for example. My point in saying all this, is that these particualar things have always been a part of the human experience and probably will be for quite a while longer. Now, thats not to say, that our generation doesn't have its share of problems. Frankly, I find that the greed and selfishness of some in this generation is a greater cause of concern than any other life choice. sexual or otherwise. I do believe that things, as a whole however, are not extremely bad off. We have even conquered many of the immoralities that have existed in the past, in order to live in a civilized society. Atrocities such as canabalism and human sacrifice, that are virtually non-existent, except for in a few areas. It's because of all the progress that we've made in the past, that convinces me that morally, we are doing much better than we have been before. Yes, we still have our fair share of problems, however I do believe that humanity can overcome them, like we have overcame other immoralities in the past. I may be, a bit of an optimist, but I have confidence in humanity to tackle and overcome all of our current problems whether they be moral or national problems which, I believe the latter, such, as a failing economy and the like is a cause of greater concern now than morals, honestly, if were talking about the decline of America, in this generation.
