where is this generation headed?

hey guys i feel like a hypocrate for posting here because I'm against guys posting on the girl's forum and vica verca, and since i'm 15, this is sorta the same thing, but I figured this was the best place to have this kind of debate: I was wondering where you guys think my generation is headed for the future. I feel like we're going to crash and burn if we keep going the way we are going. It's insane the number of pregnant teens walk around the halls of my school, and just overall how many people are sexually active. Also, probably between 50 and 75% of the people at my school get high on pot on the weekends with their friends. If you pull a random kid off the street, chances are that they have either had suicidal thoughts (or made attempts) at least once in their life, cut to deal with stress, or have anorexia, bulimia, or some other sort of eating disorder. Homosexuality is becoming a trend now. Some people become gay these days just to use it as a chance to get the attention that they want from someone of the opposite sex without feeling like they've lost their virginity or sinned. I know that a lack of faith and morality has to do with a lot of these issues, but I don't believe that's the only cause. Over half of the people in my youth group fit into one of these catagories, and most of them are extremely involved in the church and with their faith. I think most of these issues are becoming all too common. In my opinion, it even goes to the extreme that you're not socially acceptable or normal if you aren't a drug user, or sexually active, or body concious, etc. sry for the length, but I'm just worried about my generation and I was wondering how everyone stands on these issues and if you have any ideas of what to do about them  Thanks and God Bless! ~Ellen~

I believe there is need for concern but also signs of encouragement. We all see plenty of people young and old who are in desperate need of the hope and grace found in Christ. There will always be poor, the spiritually lost. And they will be the majority. But the remnant, the few who find it, the ones who heed the call of the Spirit, they are alive and well. The ones with the best chances may be the multigenerational Christians but even the first generation believers have a huge responsibility to be the first of their multigenerational chain. Some of the posts I have seen in this forum have been very encouraging that some of the young Christians in our society are solidly committed and on track to be great Christian mothers and fathers for the next generation. It appears that the most committed young people I see today are better grounded than the ones I saw when I was young. Though I believe most of the church today is in apostasy, there are obviously pockets of excellent Biblical instruction and Holy Spirit led direction. As you have seen, participation in church or youth groups does not equal spiritual growth or purity. They too often trade a focus on a life of holiness and purity for crowd gathering entertainment. Prayer, learning sound Biblical doctrine, prayer, exercising faith, prayer, always relying on God, prayer, making decisions based on that sound doctrine, prayer, and living a life of purity will build strong Christians. As a sidenote, anyone can be like everyone else. It takes character and integrity to live a life of committed purity to God in heart, mind, and body and doing it for His glory only. Regards, Steve B

Tell you the truth, I live in a place (Not gonna tell you where cause that is just stupid) where there are people who Act like jerks to other people because of there skin color. Its is annoying. Then people say that other poeple act like that. The fact that rascim(wrong spelling) has caught up most people in our nation it has started gangs, rivalry, and other bad stuff, I have to know, did they used to act like that? Where so many people rascist? I once playing at the park with my friends when i accidently stepped on a girl shoe, She started cussing, making rascist remarks, and then she and her cousins started beating me and my friends up! This is another act of stuff like that (I think) So many young poeple have grown up hearing parents say how bad another race is that they go around thinking it and acting like it. It is horrrible. I wish that somehow we can go around and change all of this. Iam best friends with people from another race, that is beacause some poeple dont go around thinking"_________ people hate me, wwhy should i like them?" and so many poepoel go around thinking that another race is bad, they make poeple think this way, then they treat you like this and teach there kids to do the same. I hate it! Iwish every one understood that God makes us the same. There is no difference the Bible says in Romans 10:12 < For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. > there is no difference between people, I wish people would understand that. Please correct me if I am wrong. (THIS GOES FOR ALL RACES, NOT JUST ONE!)

I believe that this goes along with what you were saying, Cheecha. So many people today believe they are owed something by everyone else. Whether people of one race thinks they are owed something by people of another race or if it's a difference in economic status or occupation, etc... it doesn't matter. There is, I believe, a prevalent attitude of distrust and belief that life isn't fair. Here's a novel concept: it's not. Unfortunately, I think that it has vastly affected the way people treat each other and their whole attitude toward the world around them.

I just want to elaborate on a couple of things.
I feel like a big problem among many teenagers is the idea of self-worth... we place our self-worth now-a-days on what people think about us, and this causes us to feel horrible about ourselves because we will never feel like anyone else likes us unless we like ourselves...
It's true that there is a problem with self-worth, but, unlike many of the modern psychologists will tell you, it's not a lack of self-esteem so much as it is that their self-worth is placed in the wrong thing, like DHfan said. They're placing their worth in what people say about them, how they think they conform to the media, how financially successful or popular or talented they are, etc. We need to understand and realize our worth in Christ. Yes, Christianity teaches that people are hopeless sinners, which doesn't seem to do much for worth. But then when we see that Christ, the King of the Universe, cared so much about us that He came and died for us; when we see that God loves us and cares for us in the intimate details of our lives; when we understand than in Christ we are made righteous, children of the Most High... then we have a better understanding of our self-esteem. Sorry about that last sentence - I wouldn't want to diagram it, that's for sure. Also, stratacastle said that the hope for change lies largely in families, and I believe that she is right. We can blame the media all we want, but I honestly don't think that's the real problem. Train a kid right while he's growing up and he can resist negative messages from the media. Satan has attacked familes the hardest (and continues to do this) wisely. He recognizes that that is the essential unit, the place where religious, moral and idealogical training is the strongest and most effective. That's why he wants to teach us that divorce is a viable option, that homosexual couples raising kids is just fine, that being a partial family is okay as is any other conglomeration of people we want to snap together as a family. Not to mention parents have neglected their duties to instruct their children in love as they should. Without a strong commitment to return to the core of society, family life, I fear that our generation will not turn around, but will continue on the destructive course that it now plots.

I'm praying that because of this, our generation will be a little bit better in choosing the type of family life they want for themselves, and try to raise their kids with better morals and higher self esteems than they had as teens. Things could either take this path or the destructive path that BrotherReed mentioned... I just don't see much of an in between.

You know, it really concerns me that we are called "Generation X'. It is like the adults have already given up on us. Not all of them of course, But really! Generation X?
