witnessing

I know there have probabaly been topics about this before, but I wanted to know how all of you would go about witnessing to people. If you have ever see the Way of the Master video series and/or are familiar with street witnessing, then you should know kinda what I'm getting at here. In the Way of the Master (I've only watched about 6 episodes out of the entire 13 episode series) series, they [Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron] talk about using the Ten Commandments approach and explaining to someone why they're a sinner and why they need God's forgiveness. I agree with them totally, but I seem to have this mental block about witnessing, like I get scared and/or don't know completely what to say to someone when I'm witnessing. I've never really witnessed to someone in person before, so I am not overly confident on how to go about it and what to say when I do it. What do you all do when you witness to people and how do you go about it? Also, what do you think that it's necessary to go witnessing to people on the streets everywhere you go? Also, how would you go about witnessing/shining God's light at school? I asked that question because I go to a secular high school and I am technically not allowed to "preach" to people at school (unless it were during a time like lunch or before or after school or sometime like that), and I was wondering how I can better show God's light at school without getting in trouble with the administration at my school for it. Thanks for your help!

I tend to build relationships with the person and then slowly approach the topic about my faith or if they ask. I think what I tend to do more is plant the seed with the hopes that someday, that person will come to Christ. I don't think street witnessing is the best approach. As I said earlier in this post that building a relationship with the person is more important (I think) than trying to witness to people on the streets. I witnessed at school through my actions. People noticed that I did not curse and I was always smiling sometimes that gets them thinking "I wonder why that person is always smiling."

I agree with you that building a relationship is VERY important, just showing them that you're a Christian. Planting the seed. However, street witnessing is a very important part of evangelism. You can build a relationship with someone in two minutes. You don't have to know the person to tell them the Truth. Everybody needs to hear it, not just the people you know.

God has wired us all differently. Some people have the personality that makes them bold and street witnessing may come naturally for them. I take the approach of building relationships and being kind to others and showing Christ's love through my actions. I am quick to bring God into the conversations with people as soon as there is an opportunity but that's not how I start the relationship. Don't feel like you have to fit a particular "mold". You are unique and that's exactly how God wants it. Do what is natural to you - if people sense you are being fake, they won't listen to what you have to say. Remember, some missionaries have to simply do good deeds for many years without even bringing up God or Jesus. They have to build solid relationships and simply let the people see God through them. Pray for opportunities, live a consistent life - and when the opportunity presents itself, be ready to go.
