Got a bit of a dilemma

Y'all recall the superhero team that has lived in my head for eons? Yeah... I've been trying to do backstory and make everyone less mary-sueish because if someday, I WILL make either a webcomic of them or actually write a novel. Anyways, I've got a guy in a mech-suit sort of thing that as of yet has no origin story, and the character doesn't even have a superhero name. (His real name is Cody Whitiker, but what bad guy is going to fear a Cody Whitiker?) I decided that I would make Cody an ex-Marine who got injured in Iraq, hence needing the suit for mobilty (or illusion of it). What I can't decide on is whether or not his leg is just badly damaged and he's crippled, or if his leg was amputated. One the cripple side, there is room for a plot-device coming in and curing him. On the other side, I can have Windy say something along the line of "You don't have a leg to stand on... Oh wait." See my dilemma? Can y'all help me? Pretty, pretty please?

Pretty sure neither of those things requires a giant robot suit. Ok, he's injured (whichever way you go) but whyyyy does he get a cool suit when normal people only get crutches?

Because he's a genius and he's a superhero that I created. Also, because I said so.

Not good reasons *shakes head* "because I said so" pretty much defeats the whole point of backstory. Backstory is the part where you ask questions like, "Ok, he's got a robot suit-- WHY has he got a robot suit?" Ok, he's a genius. Cool. Did he invent the suit himself or was someone just like, "Yo! You're a genius! Here, have a sweet as robot suit!"? Ok, he's a superhero. Cool. What makes him a superhero? Is he actually super or is he just a guy in a cool suit, like Batman? If he's actually super, why does he need the suit? What are his powers? If he's just a guy in a cool suit, what motivates him? Why did he choose to become a superhero? And, once again, why has he got the cool suit in the first place?

Well, that's part of my thing. Like I said, as of yet, there is no why. He just does. And it's guy in a cool suit. I really really really don't want everyone to have magic powers. I'm thinkin' that he wanted to build something to protect soldiers in battle, as well as something to help him keep up with his superpowered wife. I haven't figured out how he goes about making the thing, but basically, he's working on a living metal suit that will morph from something small and easy to carry and respond to the wearer's brain waves when in danger or battle. There's an accident, something explodes (I'm probably going to blame it on the radioactive pet rat Pythagoras), and he wakes up with the suit/band around his arm, and it has bonded to his DNA. In any case, I just want to know if he's got a leg or not.

In response to the original question I think it's a bolder move to go with the amputee story. Depending on what happened in Iraq I would assume amputation/losing a limb would be more likely than it simply being crippled.

That's about the direction I'm thinking of going. And also, it was a roadside bomb. And yes, Batman is very super.

Batman is epic, but he's not super lol. He is my favourite superhero, but he's just a man in a funny costume. he isn't superhuman. Kat- I know you don't know those answers yet, that's why I'm asking the questions. I kinda like the explosion thing.

I know, but I just want to know if he's an amputee for the dramas that go on in my head. I'm thinkin' he is.
