Ok, I've been researching all day for a paper with a theme of imperialism and colonialism. Now my eyes hurt and I'm completely brain dead. I was wondering if maybe, possibly, hopefully someone who still has a brain could maybe, possibly, hopefully give me some suggestions on my opening paragraph -- pretty please with a cherry on top? Don't worry, this won't become a regular thing. I'm just looking for some suggestions on what I already have. Thanks! Here it is: The history of the United States is one of imperialism and colonialism. Americans first declared their independence from Britain in 1776, promising a nation free from imperialism. However, less than one hundred years after their declaration, Americans were told to “Go west young man!”, thus colonizing a land inhabited by Native Americans since time immemorial. While Americans justified their movement with a myriad of so-called necessary reasons, British citizens justified their imperialistic movement with very similar reasons as well. In fact, in both cases, politics, economics, and religion played prominent roles. In the true fashion of ironically cyclical history, both the American and British governments justified their imperialistic actions through political, economic, and religious gain. That's all folks!

I would like to help, but I don't see what's wrong with that. Well, actually, I would say that the statements up to the word "immemorial" are more generic (and thus perhaps more appropriate for an intro?) than some of the statements after it.

I don't see anything wrong with that. Good spelling and grammar. Well done.
