we often think of fellowship is showing up at church or eating a meal together. so i am asking you all to share what you feel true christian fellowship is?

Fellowship is more then eating a meal together.... its growing together and learning together and standing there when our brothers and sisters stumble and fall. Being accountable to one another... holding eachother up to a higher standard. For be fellowship is more relational then this act of eating together. And being the helping, familar hand that someone needs when they dont have the strength to get up on their own. Does that make sense... it did in my head i promise

well these are some great poits. however beer with the guys is not considered true fellowship. sillycharis you made some awesome and very true statements here. can i ask for some scripture though. what you said is true and in scripture but would you be willing to post them. true fellowship is everything that we do tgether to glorify the lord and not ease ourselves. it is working together as a team to get the word out and as silly charis stated to be there for one another. picking one another up to confront, to share with to minster. all of these are very important to walking with christ.

> beer with the guys is not considered true fellowship. Right. It has to be Kosher wine drank while leaning to the left. :) You know, I think sharing meals is underrated. A meal can just be a meal, but it can be fellowship, as well. It's not really about the food, of course, but I think it's a great activity, especially if you can get different people involved. My synogogue meets on Friday nights, after which there is always a wonderful meal.. It's just part of the package, you know, like Sabbath isn't for 2 hours, but really for 24 (sundown to sundown, if you want to get technical, but probably few of you think of it like that, so..) and I personally think it's a great fellowship activity to take part in, especially in that context, when you just heard a great sermon, and you're already thinking on a biblical level, and considering what you've heard.. I like it a lot. Let's not forget that the last chance Messiah had to fellowship with all the apostles together was over the Passover Seder.

In much of the bible just about every verse that mentions fellowship also mentions sacarifics. And that is an important observation in understanding the meaning of the scripture. Fellowship in much of the the Old Testament is joined with sacrific, in saving that you have to lay down something important something pure and clean and fellowship . Not to get all nerdy but lets define Fellowship... fel·low·ship 1. the condition or relation of being a fellow: the fellowship of humankind. 2. friendly relationship; companionship: the fellowship of father and son. 3. community of interest, feeling, etc. 4. communion, as between members of the same church. 5. friendliness. 6. an association of persons having similar tastes, interests, etc. 7. a company, guild, or corporation. 8. Education. a. the body of fellows in a college or university. b. the position or emoluments of a fellow of a college or university, or the sum of money he or she receives. c. a foundation for the maintenance of a fellow in a college or university. –verb (used with object) 9. to admit to fellowship, esp. religious fellowship. –verb (used without object) 10. to join in fellowship, esp. religious fellowship. —Synonyms 2. comradeship, camaraderie, friendship, society, intimacy. Leviticus 17:5 This is so the Israelites will bring to the LORD the sacrifices they are now making in the open fields. They must bring them to the priest, that is, to the LORD, at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and sacrifice them as fellowship offerings. So this verse when applied to today, they took a valuable item and placed it before God so that they could fellowship. The most valued thing in our society is time. You need to offer God your time.. lay it down as a sacrific. Philippians 2:1-3: 1If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. 3Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. The New Testament displays things in a different light. Fellowship is to be united together and being Christ like. Which is why i stated that you need to love on the people around you, be that familiar hand there to help a stumbling brother or sister because that is what Christ does for us. okay .. i think this message is long.. haha

My favorite part about the definition of Fellowship was the Synonyms. One of fellowship's synonym is intimacy. What do you be intimate with someone... you communion with them... you invest in them... i think ill stop there... but we all know i could keep going.. heehe
