Up until I was about 10 years old or so, my mother was agnostic and my father was on the border line between agnostic and atheist. When I was little, my parents never went to church and few of my friends did. My dad would sometimes get drunk (mostly just for his birthday and stuff) and my mom smoked. I would even hear cuss words going back and forth between them sometimes. My parents loved me, but I was not raised into a Christian family from the beginning. When I was in elementary school, I was somewhat overweight and my best friend was someone who just about everyone in the school seemed to hate because he was "weird." Because he was my best friend, most people disliked me and even teased me too. Rumors would fly about me and him going out (we never went out) and I had very few close friends. I often felt like I had no friends because a lot of people didn't like me and didn't want to be near me. It was pretty sad if you think about it. My mom started going to this church by my house when I was about 10 or so, and she took me with her. My dad refused to go because he was against church and anything to do with it for the most part. I got to know other kids at my church but I still didn't have a lot of close friends. I didn't know God at that point, even though I had heard about him. Then my aunt sent me to this Christian summer camp when I was about 10 or 11 years old or so, and the counslers there talked to us all about Christ and God. I listened to them talk about how we are all sinners and stuff like that, and I thought it was all pretty darn interesting. Then I told my counsler how I felt like I had no friends and she started to tell me about Jesus and how he would always be my friend if I let him be my friend. She told me that Jesus would never leave me and would be one of the best friends that I would ever have. The stuff she told me stuck with me for while and when my mom came to pick me up from camp, I talked to her about it and she asked me if I wanted to accept Jesus Christ as my Personal Savior and Lord or not (she was saved by then). I told her that I'd think about it and about a week after camp was over, I gave my life to Christ because I wanted a true friend who would always be there for me (plus I believed in God and Christ by then). I got baptized a couple of years later with my father and I have had a relationship with Christ ever since (my father got saved about 4 years ago or so).
